If the boxes are solid and the layout works, repainting cabinets is usually a fraction of the work and mess of a new kitchen. In Osoyoos we refinish kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, laundry storage and built-in units, and the result depends almost entirely on what happens before the paint is opened.
Cabinets are touched, splashed and wiped every day, so they need a tougher approach than a bedroom wall. We degrease, sand, prime with a bonding primer and then apply a durable finish, and we describe each step in the quote so nothing is a surprise.
What goes into a cabinet refinish
- Removing doors, drawer fronts and hardware, and labelling each so it returns to its place
- Deep cleaning to remove cooking grease and hand oils that stop paint from bonding
- Sanding and filling to level worn edges, old dents and open grain
- Bonding primer on all surfaces, with stain-blocking where the wood bleeds through
- Two coats of a hard-wearing cabinet finish, sanded lightly between coats
- Reinstalling doors and hardware, adjusting hinges so everything closes cleanly
A cheaper reset for a vacation kitchen
Many Osoyoos kitchens belong to second homes with solid cabinets and tired looks. Replacing them for a house that is used a few months a year is a hard sell. A repaint changes the whole feel of the room, and a lighter colour can make a small kitchen read larger and cleaner.
The work does need a clear space and some drying time, so we plan the job in a few stages: doors and drawer fronts come off and are finished separately, while the boxes are done in place. If you plan to use the kitchen over the summer, book the job beforehand so the finish has time to cure before the heavy use starts.

How a cabinet job moves along
- Assess and quote. We check the condition of the doors and boxes, discuss colour and finish, and note the number of doors, drawers and panels in a free written quote.
- Strip and clean. Doors and hardware come off, and every surface is washed with a degreaser and rinsed so the primer can grip.
- Sand, prime, coat. We sand, fill, apply bonding primer, then spray or brush the finish coats in a clean, dust-controlled area.
- Rehang and check. Doors go back on, hinges are adjusted, and we walk the kitchen with you before the clean-up.

Cabinet Painting in Osoyoos: questions
Will my oak cabinets show the grain after painting?
Open grain can show through unless it is filled. We can fill it for a smoother look or leave some texture on purpose, and we ask which you prefer before starting.
How long before I can use the kitchen again?
You can usually cook as soon as the doors are rehung, but fresh cabinet paint stays soft for a while. Treat it gently and avoid scrubbing until it has fully cured.
Can you change cabinet hardware at the same time?
Yes, if you supply the new pulls and knobs. Tell us before the pre-job call so we can fill or drill holes as needed.
