An exterior paint job lives or dies on the weather window and the prep. Paint on a dirty, damp or flaking wall looks fine for a season and then lets go. When we quote exterior painting in Kelowna we start by asking what the walls are made of, how old the last coat is, and where water tends to sit.

We would rather tell you a wall needs another day of drying than rush a coat onto it. The finished colour is what the neighbours see, but the washing and repair underneath is what keeps it on the house.

Timing exterior painting in Kelowna

Exterior latex generally should not go on below about 10 C, and the wall surface matters as much as the air, so a cold morning on a shaded side can push a start later even when the afternoon looks warm. We check the product data sheet for the paint we are using and plan the sides of the house around sun and shade.

Most houses get sun all day on one face and very little on another, so we often paint the sunny walls in the afternoon once the dew has burned off and leave the shaded face for when it has warmed. If you want the job done before a specific date, request the quote early so we can find a dry stretch.

From first wash to final look

Inspect the walls. We check for rot, failed caulk, peeling and bare patches, and list the repairs in the quote.
Clean and scrape. The house is washed and left to dry. Loose paint is scraped back to a sound edge.
Repair and prime. Gaps are caulked, damaged wood is fixed, and bare spots are primed so they do not show through.
Coat and walk around. We apply the coats in the quote, then walk the whole house with you and fix anything you point out.

Do you paint over old peeling paint?

Not without removing it. Peeling paint has already lost its grip, so new paint over it will follow it off the wall. We scrape back to a firm edge first.

What if rain is forecast on the day?

We move the work. Painting a wet surface or ahead of rain risks streaks and poor adhesion, so we reschedule and tell you the new plan.

Should I move my vehicles and patio furniture?

Please clear the first few feet around the house. We cover and move what is left, but a clear working perimeter makes washing and scaffolding safer and faster.
