If the boxes of your kitchen cabinets are solid but the doors look dated, painting them is a practical middle road between living with them and tearing everything out. The layout stays, the counters stay, and the room gets a different look for much less disruption.
We paint cabinets for Naramata kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and built-in storage. The result depends almost entirely on preparation, so most of our time on a cabinet job goes into cleaning and sanding rather than into painting.
What goes into a cabinet job
- Removing doors, drawer fronts and hardware, and labelling each one
- Degreasing, because cooking residue stops paint from bonding
- Sanding and filling dents, scratches and old hinge holes
- Priming with a bonding primer suited to the existing finish
- Two finish coats in a durable, wipeable sheen
- Refitting doors and hardware, with new pulls if you supply them
- Light sanding of door profiles and edges, where wear shows first
Kitchens that get used hard
Out in Naramata, a village on the east shore of Okanagan Lake with vineyards and orchards all around it, a kitchen often becomes the room everyone ends up in, and the cabinets near the stove and sink take the beating. We use a durable finish and pay particular attention to the edges where fingers and steam do the damage.
Timing matters too. Cabinets need days to cure before heavy use, so we plan the job so your kitchen is out of action for as short a time as practical, and we will tell you plainly what that means for meals and access. More on the process is on the cabinet painting page.
Painted cabinets suit a kitchen where the boxes are sound but the doors look worn. If the boxes are water-swollen or sagging, we will say so, because paint will not fix structure. At the visit we check door warping, hinge play, peeling veneer and drawer glides that stick.

The sequence on a cabinet job
- Assess. We check the material, the current finish and the condition of hinges and doors, and list everything in the quote.
- Strip back and clean. Doors come off, grease and grime are removed, and surfaces are sanded and filled.
- Prime and coat. Primer first, then the finish coats with time to dry between each one.
- Rehang and review. Doors are rehung and adjusted so they close evenly, then we walk the kitchen with you and fix any marks.
The full process, prep and pricing factors are on our main cabinet painting page.
Cabinet Painting in Naramata: questions
Will the paint chip where my hands touch?
Good prep and the right primer keep chipping down. Any painted surface can wear over years of use, so we recommend a finish made for cabinets rather than regular wall paint.
Can you change the colour from dark to white?
Yes, though a big colour change usually needs primer and an extra coat. The quote will say how many coats we plan.
Do I need to empty the cabinets?
Yes, please clear them out before we arrive. We remove the doors and cover the interiors so dust and overspray stay off your dishes.
