Wallpaper is having a quiet comeback, and it is also unforgiving. A crooked seam or a mismatched pattern is the first thing a visitor sees. If you have chosen a paper for a Summerland dining room, nursery or feature wall, the installer matters nearly as much as the pattern.
We hang wallpaper in homes from a single accent wall to an entire room. The job begins with the wall, not the roll, because paper only looks as good as the surface it sticks to.
What goes into a hanging job
- Checking the wall for cracks, bumps and old paint that will not hold
- Skim coating or patching rough areas so nothing telegraphs through
- Applying a sealing primer so the paper sticks and can come off later
- Measuring drop lengths so the pattern repeat falls where it should
- Hanging each strip, smoothing out bubbles and trimming at edges
- Sealing seams, cleaning off adhesive and checking in daylight
Choosing paper for rooms with strong light
Many rooms in Summerland homes get strong direct light from lake-facing windows. Sunlight can fade some papers over time and it shows seams more clearly than a dim room does. If your wall faces a bright window, tell us, and we will talk about whether a sturdier material is a better fit.
Feature walls are the most common request, usually behind a bed or a dining table. They are forgiving because you only need one clean corner at each end. Whole rooms are more demanding around windows, doors and outlets, where pattern lines have to carry cleanly past each obstruction.
Pattern choice affects cost and effort. Large repeats waste more paper because strips must line up, and heavy textures need more careful seams. If you are still choosing, ask us before you order, and we can tell you what each option will mean for the install.

From roll to finished wall
- Look at the paper. Bring us the product details. We check the repeat, the paste type and how many rolls the room needs.
- Prepare the surface. The wall is repaired, sanded and primed, so the adhesive grips evenly.
- Hang in order. We plan from the most visible spot outward, so any small mismatch ends up in a corner, not centre stage.
- Trim and tidy. Edges are trimmed with a sharp blade, seams are rolled down and the room is cleaned.

Wallpaper Hanging in Summerland: questions
Do I buy the wallpaper or do you?
Either works. If you buy it, we will tell you how many rolls to order, plus a little extra for waste.
Can you hang paper in a bathroom?
With the right product and good ventilation, yes. Steam is hard on paper, so pick a vinyl or moisture-rated type.
Will the paper damage my wall later?
A sealed, primed wall usually allows paper to come off cleanly. Skipping the primer is what causes torn drywall.
