A painted wall shows its flaws. A bad patch shows through two coats of paint, and a good patch disappears. The difference is almost entirely technique: how deep the hole was cleaned out, how many thin layers of compound went on, and how patiently it was sanded flat.
We repair drywall in West Kelowna as stand-alone jobs and as the first step of a paint job. If something has been damaged and you want it fixed before the painters show up, that is a perfectly good request, and the quote covers the patching, the sanding and the priming.
Damage we repair
- Small nail and screw holes from pictures and shelving
- Larger holes from doorknobs, anchors and removed fixtures
- Hairline cracks over doorways and along ceiling lines
- Tape seams that have lifted or started to show a ridge
- Corner bead dents on outside corners
- Areas where a stain or leak has softened the board
Why a repair matters before the paint, not after
In a house that has seen a few moves or a renovation, drywall tells the story: patched holes from old shelves, cracks where framing has shifted, and ridges where earlier repairs were rushed. West Kelowna homes with split levels and long stairwells often have the cracks that appear where different framing planes meet.
If a stain looks like water damage, we flag it. Paint will not fix a wet wall, and covering a leak only hides it for a while. We will tell you when a plumber or roofer should look at the cause first, then repair the board once it is dry. Once the walls are smooth, they are ready for interior painting in West Kelowna.
Most repairs finish in a day or two, with drying time between coats. If you plan to sell or list a rental, a tidy repair followed by fresh paint photographs far better than a room with visible patches.

How a patch is built up
- Open and clean. Loose paper and crumbling gypsum are cut back to solid board so the patch has something firm to hold.
- Fill in layers. Compound goes on in thin coats with drying time between each, rather than one thick layer that cracks.
- Sand smooth. We sand with a light on the wall at an angle, because that is how repairs reveal themselves later.
- Seal and match. Patches are primed so they absorb paint like the wall around them, then finished with the wall colour.

Drywall Repair in West Kelowna: questions
Can you fix a hole the size of a fist?
Yes. Larger holes get a backing piece and a drywall plug before taping and filling. We include the repair and finish as one line in the quote.
Why do old patches show through the new paint?
Unprimed compound is more porous than painted wall, so it drinks paint differently and leaves a dull spot. Priming the patch first evens that out.
Does repair create a lot of dust?
Sanding does. We cover floors, seal doorways where we can and clean up each day, but tell us if anyone in the home has a dust sensitivity.
