The outside of a house is the one paint job that the weather has an opinion about. In West Kelowna that means we watch the forecast and the temperature as closely as we watch the calendar, and we would rather move a start day than put paint on a cold or damp wall.

A hillside house sees the weather head-on

Many West Kelowna homes sit on the hillsides above Okanagan Lake, and a house with an open view is often a house with open exposure. Walls facing the water can take more sun, wind and rain than a sheltered lot, so we pay attention to which sides fail first and put extra care into those walls.

Exterior latex generally should not go on below about 10 C, and wall temperature matters as much as air temperature, so we check the product data sheet before each start. For spring and fall jobs we may begin later in the morning or finish earlier in the day. The order we work in outside

Inspect and quote. We walk the whole exterior, check the age of the house, and write down what needs repair, not just what needs colour.
Clean and fix. Walls are washed, loose paint is scraped, rot spots are flagged for you, and gaps are caulked once the surface is dry.
Mask and prime. Windows, fixtures and landscaping are covered. Bare or patched areas are primed so the finish coats take evenly.
Coat and check. Finish coats go on in the right conditions. We do a walkaround with you, touch up, and take down all the masking.

How do I know whether my stucco needs painting or repair first?

Hairline cracks can be filled and painted over. Wide cracks, loose sections or damp patches need a repair first, and we point them out at the quote so nothing gets buried under new paint.

Will you paint the garage door and railings in the same job?

Yes, and we usually recommend it. Doors and railings get the most hand contact and weather, so we pick a tougher finish for them and price them as separate lines.

What if rain is forecast on the day we booked?

We call you and move the day. Paint put on a wet or cold wall can fail early, so a short delay costs less than a repaint.
